I’m Enrico, and I am the Chief Business Officer at Roblox. Roblox Plus has been live for a few days now. I’ve been following the community conversation closely, and I want to share some thoughts on what we’re seeing, the principles behind our decisions, and what’s coming next.

We’ve also read your feedback on changes to cross-game sales and the new Transfers API, and wanted to answer some of the questions I’ve heard from you. Donation games foster important community moments: people helping each other, small creators earning their first Robux, and players funding projects. This is a vital part of how many participate in Roblox and we want to make sure these moments can still happen.

At the same time, we put safety first and foremost, and that means we build systems fit for purpose with appropriate guardrails. As we continue evolving different Transfers components, I’d like to shed some light on the principles that drove its design, then share a few updates that I hope you find exciting.

Strengthening Account Accountability Through Roblox Plus

Supporting transactions instantaneously between people, especially strangers, requires a high safety bar because it has the potential to introduce significant risks: scams, coercion, account takeover, and other abuse. For senders, we need a high-confidence signal that an accountable person is involved.

Roblox Plus establishes that bar. Roblox takes no platform fee on Transfers. The Plus requirement exists solely to improve accountability.

Supporting Personal Gifting and Community Generosity

Transfers are designed for personal gifting of Robux. As such, they are not DevEx-eligible. Current thresholds enable ~95% of users who previously transacted for these amounts via cross-game sales to do the same with Transfers, but with even more net Robux for the recipient.

Transfers are not meant to pay collaborators: Robux received via the Transfer API are not DevEx-eligible. If you are paying out team members, you should use Group Payouts: 100% of those funds go to recipients and can be cashed out via DevEx. If you are paying out collaborators, your business is likely large enough that a group is the right long-term structure anyway.

Building More Flexible Transfers

As is often the case with Roblox, launch is just the beginning of a feature’s lifecycle. We started with a safety-first approach and plan to expand functionality over time as we learn from real usage, feedback, and abuse patterns.
